Langtang sits some 2 days walk away from the nearest school. Following the earthquake, Friends in High Places worked to secure access to school for seven remaining children in the village who were without education.
The children of Langtang Yak farmers are now boarders at a school in Kathmandu that focuses on teaching Tibetan, Nepali and English. This ensures they have the opportunity to carry on their culture, pursue higher education in Nepal and develop a world view to unlock a myriad of opportunities in the future. These children would have otherwise remained uneducated but now they are able to break the cycle of poverty in their family and contribute to a new generation of empowered locals.
From Melbourne to Marseilles to Scotland, many people from around the world are generously sponsoring the children to attend school. Each term they receive a report card and letter from their sponsor child. Some share their desires to be dancers and doctors while others speak of returning to their village to start businesses or continue work on their families farm.
